Start with a familiar situation. A worker performs well with accessible tools, then struggles after a worksite moves. Their knowledge has not vanished. The environment has changed what they can demonstrate.
Notice the PA relationship: Changed conditions → altered participation → observer interpretation → opportunity or exclusion → feedback and redesign.
Respect, trust, confidence, disdain and opportunity are relational, context-dependent; tone, body language, self-respect, self-esteem, available knowledge and Physical Health can change the interaction. The four PA dimensions are present together. What other explanation or useful resource might be missing?

Environmental openness
Distinguish characterized influences, detected but poorly understood influences, and influences that remain practically inaccessible to observation. The third category is an acknowledgement of model incompleteness, not proof of any particular hidden cause.
Environmental influences may alter the strength, direction, timing, or detectability of several relationships at once. Represent shocks, gradual changes, measurement bias, institutional constraints, access to resources and network effects.
Prediction versus robustness
Estimate conditional outcomes, record calibrated uncertainty, compare against simple baselines, evaluate unexpected deviations, and distinguish prediction improvements from risk reductions through resilience, diversification, safeguards and reversibility.
When an unexpected effect occurs, preserve alternative explanations, including measurement error, behavior changes induced by a prediction, model mismatch, and unidentified modifiers.
